Terms and Conditions of Use

General Sauna Etiquette

  • Arrive clean and showered. Avoid wearing makeup, body lotions or other products.
  • Ideally arrive “sauna ready” as we do not have private changing facilities.
  • Sauna users must not be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Alcohol and drugs are not permitted on site.
  • Anyone exhibiting anti-social behaviour will be refused entry to the sauna and asked to leave.
  • Sauna users should bring their own water bottle.
  • No smoking in or around the sauna.

Sauna Attire

  • Footwear: Footwear should be worn to move around the site. Outdoor footwear should be removed before entering the sauna.
  • Attire: Sauna users should wear appropriate swimwear, such as swim shorts, a swimming costume, or a bikini without metal components. Genitals must always remain covered.
  • Towel: Sauna users should bring and sit on their own towel to keep the sauna clean and protect the benches.
  • Sauna hat: Sauna hats are provided but are not compulsory. Sauna hats are designed to protect the head, hair and ears from becoming too hot.

Sauna Safety

  • Sauna users use the sauna and the surrounding site at their own risk.
  • Use caution when moving around the site, particularly when entering and exiting the sauna.
  • Avoid bringing metal or glass objects into the sauna that may become too hot (e.g. mobile phones).
  • Do not touch the stove or sauna rocks.
  • Entering any cold plunge, loch, river, or ocean is not advised and is entirely at the sauna users’ own risk.
  • Sauna users should only stay in the sauna for a maximum of 15 minutes at a time.
  • Children under 16 are not allowed to use the sauna. An adult must accompany children under the age of 18.
  • Only provided sauna water should be drizzled sparingly onto the sauna rocks. Use the ladle provided to drizzle sauna water onto the rocks, from back to front, ensuring the arm stays away from the hot steam (“löyly” in Finnish).
  • Do not hang towels or clothing anywhere inside the sauna, including the safety guard rail around the stove.

Medical and Health

  • Sauna users with medical conditions or who are using any medications should consult a physician for advice on whether a sauna is suitable for them.
  • Sauna users who have been advised not to use a sauna should not use the sauna.
  • Pregnant people should not use the sauna.
  • Sauna users with any infection should not use the sauna (this includes respiratory and skin infections).
  • Sauna users with open wounds should not use the sauna.
  • Exit the sauna immediately if feeling unwell.
  • If any sauna user sustains an injury or feels unwell, they should immediately exit the sauna.

Using the Sauna

  • The sauna temperature is typically 60-75°C, and humidity is 10-30%.
  • Follow instructions on how to drizzle water onto the sauna rocks. Use the ladle provided to ensure the arm stays away from the hot steam (“löyly” in Finnish). Adding water will increase the perceived temperature and humidity, and it is good practice to check with other sauna users beforehand to ensure everyone remains comfortable.
  • Typically, users will sit in the sauna for 5-15 minutes, followed by a 5-10 minute “cooling off” outside. Sauna users may use the sauna and “cool off” multiple times per session.
  • A maximum of 6 people will use the sauna at any one time.
  • After a sauna session, it is recommended to rest for at least 10 minutes to allow the body to cool down.

Property and Admission

  • We reserve the right to refuse use of the sauna to any person deemed unsuitable to use the sauna, for example, anyone who appears under the influence of drugs or alcohol, medically unfit or who is exhibiting antisocial behaviour.
  • All property brought to the sauna is at the user’s own risk. We are not liable for any loss or damage to property.
  • Users must arrive on time for a booked session. Ideally, users should arrive 5-10 minutes before the booked time to maximise their time in the sauna.
